Where is forbes field

We were in Pittsburgh this past July. Viewed the wall and home plate. Also the Mazeroski plaque where the ball went over the wall. It is in a parking lot, north side of 35th Street. It too is in a parking lot. I was nine years old I have been a die hard fan ever since. They were very nice neighbors.

My greatest Pirate thrill was attending the world series. Forbes was an outstanding place to view the Grand Old Game. Thanks Phil Gefsky.

We ate at a dining hall at University of Pittsburgh. We we driven in a nice tour bus. It was awesome! Forbes Field featured an ivy covered brick wall in left and left-center field.

The main hand operated scoreboard featured a Longines clock was located in left field. The cages of three light towers in the outfield were in play making for some interesting plays as many triples and inside the park homeruns were hit at Forbes Field. It was known as one of the hardest ballparks to hit a homerun at. By the late s and early s Forbes Field was beginning to show its age and becoming obsolete.

The final game at Forbes Field was on June 28, as the Pirates played a doubleheader against the Cubs, who they had played the first game ever at Forbes Field in Following the final out fans scrambled onto the field for souvenirs.

Forbes Field was damaged by two fires before being demolished in July The location of Forbes Field is now the site of the University of Pittsburgh library and dorms. Homeplate remains on display in its final location of part of the original brick left field wall remains standing. Along with the wall, the site features the original flag pole from the ballpark. Forbes Field certainly built an impressive history over the years, and served the Pirates well until the team decided to move into a more modern venue.
