The new year brings opportunity to invest in new gear and turn your interest in photography into a valuable skill. In the excitement of trying out your new Rebel T6 or Rebel T7 lens kit, you want to start taking photos as soon as possible. Before you start snapping away, however, take a few moments to set up your camera.
Press the shutter button halfway to activate autofocus, and then press the shutter button completely to take your first photo. Choose one of the Special Scene modes — like Portrait, Landscape, Sports, or Night Portrait — to automatically apply optimized settings based on specific conditions. Press the camera icon button to switch between the optical viewfinder and Live View mode. Set the Mode dial to Movie Shooting and press the camera icon button to record. Exposure settings are automatic unless you go through the Movie Shooting menu, where you can configure settings for movie recording file size, wind filter and exposure.

If you use a card with a slow writing speed, a five-level indicator may appear on the right of the screen during movie shooting. It indicates how much data has not yet been written to the card remaining capacity of the internal buffer memory. The slower the card, the faster the indicator will climb upward. If the indicator becomes full, movie shooting will stop automatically.
If the card has a fast writing speed, the indicator will either not appear or the level if displayed will hardly go upward. First, shoot a few test movies to see if the card can write fast enough. When you shoot at high ISO speeds, noise such as dots of light and banding may become noticeable. Shooting in high temperatures may cause noise and irregular colors in the image.
Always exit Live View shooting when you are not shooting. Exit Live View shooting and wait a few minutes before shooting again. If you connect the camera to a TV set and shoot a movie, the TV set will not output any sound during the shooting. However, the sound will be properly recorded. Sound will not be recorded on approx.
When you play back movies on Windows, images and sound may become slightly out of synchronization. Settable menu functions differ between Basic Zone modes and Creative Zone modes Shutter speed and aperture are set automatically. In Creative Zone modes, you can press the [ ] button to lock the exposure AE lock. The exposure setting will be displayed for the number of seconds set with [ : Metering timer].
