In the extensive PvP component of Guild Wars, all characters automatically have access to ideal equipment, and start at level In PvE, it is relatively easy to achieve maximum level and acquire fully-optimized equipment. While unlocking all possible skills requires more effort, the 8-skill limit means that a character with more skills only has an advantage in versatility, not in strength.
Thus, the most important advancement lies not in character statistics but in player skill. A novice player and an expert may have access to the same character options, but the expert will be able to use these options to far greater effect. While the character's initial, or primary, profession is permanent, very soon into the game the character will have the opportunity to choose a secondary profession.
The character will then be able to complete several quests under each of the professions available in that campaign before finally having to choose one as a secondary profession.
Later in the game, the character will be able to swap secondary professions with the help of profession trainers. With 10 professions available to begin with, there are 90 possible combinations of primary and secondary professions. Many secondary professions supplement primary professions extremely well.
There are many articles both within GWW and other fan sites that cover combinations in great detail. This page on the GuildWiki site is an example. Initially, the player must run from place to place. This will uncover detailed information about that location on the World Map. Travel from any town or outpost to an explorable area is done simply by running through a portal.
Once more than one town or outpost has been uncovered, the player may then map-travel between towns to save time. When the player owns other campaigns or extensions, their character will be allowed to travel between the existing continents. Game traveling is done through ports. There is only one port in each campaign. Game mechanics differ from one campaign to another. Weapon inscriptions and heroes only exist in Nightfall and in Eye of the North , but can be obtained by players from Prophecies and Factions by game traveling to those lands.
Exploration of the three main continents also carry their own titles. It is here also that a player may notice a difference in Game mechanics across the world of Guild Wars. While purely visual in nature, there are differences in the way the world works from one campaign to another.
For example, fire animations are handled differently. The most visually appealing are in the Eye of the North expansion. Also, while standing near objects that obstruct the view of battle, sometimes the obstruction will "fade" away in one campaign, but not another.
As the player travels the world, they will eventually encounter wildlife. Some will be passive. These will be indicated by green rings under the creature when targeted.
Light green rings indicate a creature that is not interactive, such as the rabbit found in pre-Searing Ascalon. Dark green rings indicate that the creature can be made hostile if it is attacked. There are numerous exceptions as to which interactive creatures can be charmed into Ranger pets. A few creatures can not even be targeted, such as the Cat. Foes, either an interactive creature that has been attacked, or an out right hostile creature, will have a red circle under it when targeted.
In Guild Wars, you face each Defender one at a time. To compensate for these differences, we have introduced the concept of power into guild wars. When setting your Defenders or Attackers, you will notice that each card, and each team, has a power rating. This rating reflects the cards' overall stats. When a hero is turned into a Defender, we use the power score to determine its stats as an enemy. Through this method, we even the odds between Attackers and Defenders. The order of your Defenders is important to setting the best defense in Guild Wars.
When the opponent attacks, they face your Defenders one at a time, in the left to right order they appear in the Defender interface. As each Defender is killed, the subsequent Defender gets a Rage boost that increases their stats. This Rage boost increases the further into your Defender order the card appears. For instance, let's imagine I had three Lvl 36 Starcatcher Devorah cards equipped on my Defender team.
One was in the 1st position, one in the 3rd position, one in the 5th position. Even though each card had the exact same power, an opponent would notice that the Devorah in the 3rd position was stronger than the one in the 1st position, and the Devorah in the 5th position was the strongest of all.
This is a result of the Defender Rage bonus. Understanding the Rage bonus and putting your Defenders in the proper order is key to maximizing the power of your Defenders. In each Battle, your guild can score a total of Kill points against the opponent. When a Battle starts, you may notice that your guild's Kill score is greater than 0, even though no one has used an attack.
If the opponent's guild has any unfilled positions in their guild, you will score 5 Kills for each unfilled position one for each unfilled Defender. Additionally, if any opponent has an unfilled Defender slot, your guild will earn one Kill at the start of the Battle for that unfilled slot. Since this is a new feature, we do not want to penalize any players who do not have a chance to set their Defenders before the very first Battle starts.
If a player in your guild has never set their Defenders at the time they are matched up for a Battle, the system will use their last used attack team to create their Defender team.
This way, the player will be a meaningful target for your opponent to attack. The system will not save this team in their profile as their Defender team, however. The player still needs to set their Defenders manually. Once a player has set their Defenders for the first time, the game will never overwrite their Defenders with the last used attack team.
Make sure to use your 2 attacks every day to earn your 2 War Medallions. Even if your guild is completely outmatched, you will still want to earn this valuable currency. If you leave your current guild and join a guild with a Battle in progress, you will not be able to participate in your new guild's active Battle. Show Navigation. Download and Play Guild Wars!
